The European Commission has appointed the Öko-Institut and the Fraunhofer IZM to provide technical assistance in reviewing exemption requests from the substance restrictions within Directive 2011/65/EU, also known as RoHS II. The stakeholder consultation runs between January 24 and March 20, 2012 and covers 18 exemption requests that have to be evaluated against the criteria for exemptions in Art. 5 (1) (a).The role played by the Öko-Institut and the Fraunhofer IZM in the stakeholder consultation is to collect and evaluate information provided by stakeholders, as well as to provide the Commission with recommendations on each exemption's justification. The final decision on each exemption, however, will be taken by the relevant EU institutions. From the 20 RoHS exemption requests submitted, only 18 are part of this stakeholder consultation. Requests number 2 and 11 have not been included in the current project.The 18 RoHS exemptions requests covered by the stakeholder consultation are:

A guidance document was developed to help stakeholders to understand the consultation process and assist interested parties with submitting a contribution.
